This started in 1996, working on IBM and Apple systems back when getting a computer running was equal parts skill and stubbornness — when a 486 was the fast machine, memory was measured in megabytes, and the internet arrived through the phone line, one screeching handshake at a time.
The trade was learned the old way: on the sales floors and service counters where America bought its first computers — RadioShack, Circuit City, the era of Tandy, IBM, and Compaq. Years of walking families and business owners through their first machines teaches you something no certification does: how to listen to what a person actually needs, and how to explain technology like a human being.
Every generation of hardware since has crossed the bench — DOS to Windows 11, floppy disks to NVMe drives, 14.4k modems to fiber. When you've watched every wave of technology arrive, you learn which problems are genuinely new and which are the same old ones wearing new clothes. Most of them are the old ones. That's why the diagnosis is fast and the fix is usually smaller than you feared.
